Who We Are

YWCA is one of the oldest women’s organizations in Zambia that was established in Kitwe in 1957. Since its inception, YWCA has continued to stand at the fore front of social, economic and cultural change and tackling gender injustices and inequalities. The organisation’s work aims at contributing towards the implementation of National plans and policies such as the Seventh National Development Plan, National HIV & AIDS Strategic Framework, Zambia’s Vision 2030 etc. and also the World YWCA Vision which states that “By 2035, 100 million young women and girls transform power structures to create justice, gender equality and a world without violence and war; leading a sustainable YWCA movement, inclusive of all women.”

YWCA is operational in 9 provinces and 51 districts of Zambia. The primary target groups for the organisation are women, youth and children. YWCA equally embraces working with men and boys as critical change agents in its programming in order to holistically tackle gender injustices and promote gender equity and equality.
